NZ jewellery store flooded with emails after Royal request
Published: 8:57AM Monday April 07, 2014 Source: ONE News
A New Zealand jewellery designer and her business partner say they have been inundated with inquiries after the Duchess of Cambridge requested four of their pieces to potentially wear on the Royal tour.
Designer Victoria Taylor and Kirstin O'Brien from Wellington-based jewellers Tory and Ko were asked to supply three pairs of earrings and a necklace for Catherine.
Tory and Ko were recommended by Ms Taylor's sister, New York based fashion designer Rebecca Taylor, who has previously dressed the Duchess.
Ms O'Brien told TV ONE's Breakfast that they followed Rebecca's recommendation up with Kensington Palace.
"The palace came back straight away to us and said they loved our jewellery and they would like to select some pieces.
"They were very specific about the pieces they wanted and that made us quite delighted because they chose some wonderful pieces from two different collections."
She says it is "very exciting", and says they have been "inundated with emails from all over the world", with people asking for a pair of earrings that the Duchess may wear.
Catherine chose two sets of earrings from their Pretty Collection. One pair is in citrine with a gold bow and sea pearl, costing $695, and the other is in blue topaz.
Ms Taylor says she designed the pieces a few years ago and says they were based on a Victorian Royal motif.
Catherine's aides also chose a pair of pearl and diamond white gold earrings, costing $2900, and a matching 18k necklace at $1500. Ms Taylor says they are a "great classic combination."
It's not the first time Catherine has worn the work of a Kiwi designer. The Duchess wowed in a stunning canary yellow coat by Kiwi Emilia Wickstead when she was eight months pregnant.
And Vira Tavioni, who manages Tav Pacific in Mt Eden in Auckland, received calls from Dubai, the United States and Europe after Catherine was photographed wearing a Tav printed dress while on tour in the Solomon Islands.
The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge and their son Prince George are expected to arrive in Wellington at around 11.45am today
